Aftershock

In tangled hues of anguish and might,
A symphony of purple, black, and white.
Figures writhe in a storm of despair,
A visual echo of trauma laid bare.

This canvas employs a bold abstractionist style, using sharp, intersecting lines to define human forms amidst chaos. The dominant purples and blues suggest emotional depth, while the stark white outlines provide a dramatic contrast. The composition conveys motion and tension, creating a narrative of resilience amid turmoil. The abstract shapes invite interpretation, blending personal and collective experiences.

Artist’s Note:
This painting was created in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria, claiming thousands of lives and leaving entire communities in grief. “Aftershock” seeks to honour the memory of those lost and capture the collective trauma that lingers in the aftermath. The flowing contours and disjointed forms represent both the physical upheaval and emotional disarray that follow such tragic events. It stands as a visual lament, and a call for compassion and solidarity in times of overwhelming loss.
