This figure study belongs to the genre of life drawing, capturing the male nude through expressive gesture and form. The technique employs pastel on dark paper, using limited tones to model volume and highlight anatomical structure. The contrast between lit areas and deep shadow creates a dramatic, sculptural effect.

Artist’s Note
This study was executed very deftly and rapidly during a life class led by renowned artist Anton Calleja at the Institute of Arts and Design. The intention was to capture the essence of the pose with immediacy and energy, focusing on line, weight, and light rather than intricate detail.
